2009 Winners from Gloucester County Institute of Technology

17th Annual Greater Philadelphia Automotive Technology Competition

About the Competition

The overall objective of this competition is to increase the number and quality of professional automotive service technicians available to the ADAGP Dealer Members. With nearly one thousand auto technology students in the region, there is a lot of available talent to an industry that has much to offer. Today’s technicians are considered professional people and can earn as much as the engineers who design the vehicles. Furthermore, the skills and education required are equally advanced. As will be proven during the contest, the auto technicians of the 21st Century must have highly polished math and computer skills in addition to very strong mechanical aptitude.

This competition is supported by a volunteer advisory committee that meets throughout the year to plan the event. This group is made up of professionals representing new car dealerships, auto manufacturers, industry suppliers and post secondary technical schools. The Foundation is extremely grateful for the time and energy that each committee member dedicates to the contest.

The Hands-On Competition at Automotive Training Center in Warminster – Twenty four students will compete at eight work stations and perform a pre-delivery inspection on a new car as they vie for nearly $750,000 in scholarships, tools and prizes to help them continue their automotive education.  The winning duo will compete in the National Automotive Technology Competition at the New York Auto Show in April 2010.

The Foundation welcomes contributions of prizes for the contestants.  No gift is too small.  For details or additional information regarding the type of items needed, please contact Mary Lynn Alvarino.
