150 Local Auto Dealers Kick-off WE PLEDGE Month; Third Annual Driving Away the Cold Program Gets Underway

E. Norriton, Pa., September 1, 2010 – Today, 150 Dealer Members of the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation kicked off the one-of-a-kind WE PLEDGE month of the 2010 Driving Away the Cold program.

Driving Away the Cold is a philanthropic initiative started in January of 2008 by the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation. The program has one simple but very important mission—to provide new winter coats to underprivileged children living in the five-county region of Philadelphia.

Every year, the Foundation jump starts the annual program with a donation of 10,000 new child-size coats to the overall effort. The Foundation then invites area auto dealers, to continue the giving by participating in a special month-long campaign, titled WE PLEDGE. Through the WE PLEDGE campaign, participating dealerships agree to donate an additional brand new winter coat to a child in need when a vehicle is sold on-site during the month of September.

“To date, more than 36,000 coats have been distributed through Driving Away the Cold and we are proud to continue the effort today,” said Kevin Mazzucola, executive director of the Foundation. “We have 150 dealerships participating this year. That’s incredible. Once again, our dealers have remained true community champions regardless of the current economic climate. ”

The thousands of coats that will be donated via the 2010 Driving Away the Cold program will be distributed this October through a number of regional social service agencies, community organizations, homeless shelters and more.
